Street entertainers. Mimes. A man playing the accordion in Starbucks. The one thing that never ceases to amaze me in New York is the number of seriously insane people that reside here. So your life's mission is to yodel with an iguana on your head? I respect that.

The Snapshot: Pretty In Pink
You thought that you could escape her blue, plastic eyes once passing the age of four, but here Barbie is, back to haunt us with her "no" jointed plastic anatomy. Though I had to withstand her for every Christmas of my childhood (until the age of 14, thanks to my Aunt), she is brought to the public in a much more creative and respectable way.
I recently visited FIT in New York and saw the Barbie-inspired display including presentations in photography, interior, and fashion design. Special student work was selected for the display, which ones are your favorite?

The Snapshot: My Greatest Regards
Alright....it's been awhile. And my sincerest apologies, I know you've been DYING to know what my latest endeavor has been...or not. Between interning, working, and exploring the city, I have loads of ridiculous images to share with you. For this post, I'll start with the most recent experience, though that doesn't make any sense at all. I've just return from working the Governor's Ball music festival, AKA working in a parking lot directing traffic for 8 whole hours. Oh yes, the glamorous life I lead. But I met some cool people, ate a funnel cake, and was able to enjoy a couple of the concerts going on. Take a look at the lineup!
Here's the most hilarious part of the festival, the room with the silent DJ. Everyone wore headphones, was listening to the same music and busting out moves while at the same time, being completely silent to anyone walking by. What a revolutionary idea.

The Snapshot: It's All In The Details
I once again was sent to Midtown, right next to Times Square for some fabric errands for my Ref internship. I got to visit Mood for the third time, it's now becoming one of my favorite places (happen to be hiring??). My mission this time was to specify on lace and crochet trims...though I was a little distracted. Hopefully I passed the test! :)

The Snapshot: I've Turned Into A Foodie
Oh, dear old dad. Instead of playing golf and grabbing a six pack to zone out while watching football, my father obsesses over his exquisitely made meals, repeating a recipe is a crime in itself. We have never ordered a pizza, probably a little strange for a normal American family, never thought I fit into the stereotype anyways. So along with the family genes, a sense for the culinary has also been passed onto me, thanks dad. I now prefer any kind of foreign food instead of American, lets get fat on gnocchi and naan instead of McDonald's fries.
Pork Bun from Chinatown
Free Indian food at a festival in Washington Square
Sopa at a Mexican restaurant
Didn't eat these...
Irish stew with potatoes, lamb, and carrots

The Snapshot: Momma Mia
Little Italy--full of real gelato, convincing foreigners (though most of them are from "eastern" Europe), and some hit or miss "real" Italian food. My gnocchi was average at best but the gelato definitely made up for it, maybe I should just stick with dessert as a main course.

The Snapshot: Just Like A Picasso
More street art at it's finest. Other than my far from flattering outfit post....ignore it and just admire the awesome graffiti.

The Snapshot: Let's Get Baked
While walking the streets of Soho I almost missed a tiny, inconspicuous shop but I'm so glad the smell of freshly baked cupcakes caught my attention. Baked by Melissa is an adorable shop that sell mini cupcakes, your choice of three for $3. And these weren't no ordinary baked good, this was the melt in your mouth kind of delicacy that you don't want to stop eating...good thing my wallet refrained me from having to go up two pant sizes.

The Snapshot: The Reformation
The second week of my internship at the Reformation is already here, time is flying by! After going on an errand for safety pins and proceeding to get lost, I was sent to help out at their store, conveniently on the same street that I am living. Once there, everyone working today was nice and helpful (looks like I lucked out for once). I mostly worked in the back room organizing merchandise... oh what a glamorous life I lead.

The Snapshot: The New York Caveman
Thought you might enjoy some more random photos, these are of a shop called, Evolution. Inside the doors stood several bizarre and interesting artifacts, most of them not something I would ever want to come into contact with while it was alive (beetles, spiders, sharks, etc.).....This definitely wasn't a cute clothing store like I had expected.

LF= L-I+F-E
I'm freaking out. Not only because I have just discovered my newest and most favorite brand of all time, but also for the fact that i can't afford the majority of the merchandise...oh well, I'm sure that won't stop me. LF is now at the top of my list, they have locations in New York, California, Florida, and Boston but no online options unfortunately.
These people know how it's done and I agree with everything they believe in as a brand--it's all about being yourself and pushing the limits by taking what's trendy and making it your own. I've applied for the New York Soho location, let's hope things work out for us :)
