Pucker Up

What is this outfit missing? Oh I know, cheetah printed lip tattoos.  Just when you didn't think you could stand out enough following my fashion advice, no one will be able to draw their eyes from your animal printed lips, rather than listening to what you are actually saying.  Don't plan on drinking any liquid, eating, or kissing anyone for the next five hours.  But who cares?  You look awesome.  Violent Lips claim to provide the latest, and MUST have accessory to every outfit and I would have to agree.  Bring out the wallet 'cause these aren't cheap.

If your not willing to spend the money, waste your time delicately painting your lips with eyeshadow like I did.  I've included a basic how-to and some interesting lip designs that most likely match nothing that I could ever wear.

Start with a foundation about Carmex or some kind of chapstick, it will help the eyeshadow stick better.

I started with Half Baked gold eyeshadow by Urban Decay, but take a gander at all these other crazy colors to choose from...

Apply with a regular eyeshadow brush with enough for full coverage over lips.

I then brushed on silver from the same palate over the gold.

Brush on, sir, brush on.

Seal those sparklers with some clear gloss, those lips are 24 carrot golden. (that was a stretch, I know)

Pearls And Diamonds Darling

This blog is not about outfit posts.  Rarely do I deem my outfits appropriate for public view, let alone for the nice folks on the world wide web to see.  So sorry, this is but one time I will let this little rule slip, all for the sake of the ragolution.  My day begun, continued, and finished shopping at one of my favorite places, Opitz Outlet.  This store sells designer goods for a ridiculously awesome price and today happened to be one of their five dollar blowout sales, how lucky for me.

The normal person would simply browse through the racks and pick, maybe, one or two things that would blend in nicely with the rest of their wardrobe.  Not I.  I managed to try on the majority of clothes in the store (if you've tried it on, I probably have too) and escaped with several garments that have absolutely no place in the rest of my closet.  But hopefully they can match SOMETHING I have, or I'll just have to go shopping again (oh darn).  The main reason for the five dollar price tag is the slight imperfection that each item usually has.  But what can't a needle and thread, duct tape, or blow torch fix?  I thought there was no better definition of the ragolution than to preserve the life of an originally impeccable garment and save it from the fiery depths of a discounted hell.  I've included pictures of what the clothes looked before and after I rescued them (if they could talk back I'm sure they would thank me, or try to get away from my abusive glue gun).

Now here is the part of the post I attempt to model my new beauties, though probably not too successfully. Don't worry, I'm not planning on quitting my day job.

Yes, a jumping picture.  Through lots of practice and hours of time, they can be flattering and awe inducing.  Unfortunately, I had neither.

I thought I would end with this one to prove how seriously I take fashion--which meaning, not at all.

Hope You're Feeling Lucky...

Even though New Years has passed, who said you can't still have a little bling?  This clutch was inspired by the idea of broken glass or a mirror but I avoided using the actual materials to prevent possible injury or bad luck, of course.  The materials used were a little more user friendly than breaking shards of glass and gluing them to an accessory, that is without the use of garden gloves or safety goggles.

Here is what I used:

  • An old clutch or wallet, the flat ones with snap closures seem like the best

  • A big ol' bag of silver, plastic gems from any craft store
  • Handy dandy glue gun
  • 1/2 yard of silver fringe (length and color depend on how much of the wallet you want to cover, I did two rows)
Before adding all the materials to the wallet, you might want to paint it the color of the gems or a solid contrasting color.  The one I found was originally black, so I figured that was good enough.  Begin by cutting the fringe into four pieces the length of the wallet.  Then hot glue the fringe onto the bottom of the clutch, starting from the bottom up.  Only glue the fringe on the front and the back, not the sides so it doesn't get caught when opening and closing the wallet.  And another note about the fringe, make sure to glue the ends so the threads don't unravel.  Proceed to painstakingly adhere the gems over the rest of the wallet.  I placed them randomly and overlapped the shapes to give a more "broken" effect.  And here is the final product, ready for any night on the town, just be sure to avoid any black cats and walking under ladders.

Notice my crackly nail polish, silver crackle over black.  I thought I should give myself some extra credit points for how cleverly it matched.

And apologies for the lack in how-to photos, they were unfortunately deleted from my camera, how....unlucky.

I NEED more....

Accessories.  Even though this statement is far from the truth, fun pieces always add that special something to either make an outfit or set it way over the edge (in a good way...sometimes).  If you are a penny pinching college student like myself, an accessory seems a more plausible way to keep up with the latest trend without having to invest in a designer sequin suit or something of the sort.  Here are a couple of things that I am longing to own such as these fierce cat eye sunglasses by 80s Purple. Meoww.
These next magical spectacles remind me of an Albert Einsteen in the twenty fifth century or some bionic invention Inspector Gadget would have used.

Wait for it....yup. They flip open.  Just in case the decision to wear sunglasses was too hard to take them off completely.

Another hot trend to sport in this blistering (more like freezing) weather would be the aptly named infinity scarf, I swear I was the first to wear these like TWO years ago, whine, complain, etc.  This one in particular would be a great way to reuse old fabric and yarn scarps, pretty much the definition of a MIB, only now to find the time.  Look to Nina Ramone on etsy for these delicious rags.

I know what they say about this next one.  "They", being all them haters that hoped this trend was to remain in the past and never reappear to haunt the hips, foopas, or shall we say, fanny's?  Yes, I am speaking of this fanny pack, a shunned beauty of ingenuity.  But here I bring it to you with a surprising makeover, replace the defeminine-izing (yes this is a word) and unflattering seatbelt strap with a chain and now we are in business.  Or go the utilitarian route with a belted leather pack, ready to hold your very own hammer and nails.

No, I am hoping this version stays in the past.

This last one was also discovered on etsy, though the trick is trying to make it stay on.  I knew there was some real reason we had ears, not for hearing but for decorating the back of them with feathers, metal, and bolts.

Here's my own take on the ear cuff.  Wearing it makes me feel like a startled peacock that can barely breath in fear of my beautiful accessory form falling off of its intended position...yeah that doesn't really make sense to me either.
